Your 2 hour shoot includes:
-
200+ DIGITAL IMAGES!
-
YOUR OWN PASSWORD PROTECTED
WEBPAGE where our entire session will be online
within two business days of the shoot. There you will be able to
see your photographs in color and black and white, and email some
or all images to your agents, casting directors, managers, acting
coaches, friends, family and anyone else in the biz who can help
you decide which ones are your favorites!
On your web page, you can also choose to retouch, design your headshot
with a variety of borders and fonts, crop, and order single prints
and/or multiple copies.
You may also order enlarged contact sheets of your favorites for
easy visual reference. They're pretty handy to carry around and
your images are pictured much larger than the old fashioned contact
sheets!
-
A CD OF WEB-READY IMAGES which are
perfect for emails and website usage. (A CD of print-ready images
is available for $75.)
-
A $50 REBATE for each and every
person you refer to me who eventually shoots with me!
The rebate is great!! I shot a person from Julliard one month, and
the next month he sent me all his classmates - so he made $50 for
each and every person...YOWZA!!
We don't use flash here! After modeling
with Ford for 12 years, I've learned it's just too darned hard to
time your "look" to the flash and stay natural. With flash,
your eyes become hesitant, posed, tired, dead, stilted and Stepford
wifey - exactly the opposite of what you want in a headshot! Your
eyes will attract a lot more attention from agents and casting directors,
when they are doing something, when they are communicating - when
they are alive, approachable, spontaneous and full of light! The
easiest way for us to achieve that is to shoot with natural light
!
(It's also not necessary to spend extra money on a makeup artist
whose main job is to combat that "jarring flash"!)
Collaboration Paragraph: You and I will spend
about the first 1/2 hour talking about how you'd like the shoot
to go (ie., defining a "commercial" and "legit"
shot, deciding which clothes work best for you...) So if you learn
something new by the day of the shoot, we'll always have time to
discuss it. We'll also meet Mr. Hair Mirror and Mrs. Face Mirror
to address your concerns. Oh, what a joy!
The Human Interest Paragraph: Nobody comes in
here saying "I just can't wait to get my headshots done!".
Sooo here are a few things that will make things go easier, and
we actually do have fun!
-
Bring music! I've got a 5 C.D. shuffler just to
get that "juke box effect". If you forget, I have quite
a variety for you to choose from. You can bring your IPod too!
-
You're in my comfortable, warm, living room, looking
through six huge 9 ft. windows @ the Hudson River, instead of a
cold steely studio.
-
Also, from being on both sides of the camera, I've
learned that the best sessions don't have to take too long! Again,
since we're not using flash (where by definition shoots can take
in excess of 3 hours, or even a grueling full day), 2 hours is all
we need! If any more than 2 hours is spent, your eyes get tired,
pooped out and will lack pizazz!
-
I have an assistant ! She's wacky and fun to be
around, and helps me out a bunch!
-
And it's good if you're nervous-we can use it!
One of the reasons I'm working so hard is
because all my business comes from recommendations by agents, casting
directors, managers... and clients like you! (Thank You!) What's good
about that is it's proof that my work is working out there, and that
I get direct-up-to-date feedback on what works best! Three of
the most V.I.P. things that they like in my shots are : 1) You look
like yourself! An obvious, but a usually overlooked point. 2) There's
life, movement and a kind of 3-dimensionality in your shots, almost
as if they were taken from an actual movie, and 3) Your EYES,
EYES, EYES! They're full of warmth, aliveness and
light! You then become expressive, communicative and approachable! That
is exactly what you want in a headshot!! You'll see more of how we get
that in my video extraordinaire.
Clothes: To insure that your eyes stay the most important
part of your picture, clothes should direct the attention to your face.
Solid colored things work best! Bright white doesn't, black does! Textures
are wonderful - sweaters, jackets, V-necks etc. Bring stuff you normally
wear - 4 or 5 items. Once you get here, we'll lay them out, go over
them together and choose 3-4 looks. If you have a doubt about it, bring
it! It's much easier for me to decide once it's in front of me. White
stuff is fine underneath jackets or shirts. Showing arms as in sleeveless
or short sleeved shirts is a bit too busy! Remember keep it simple!
"What if it's not sunny?": I was on the
waiting list for this apartment for 3 years just so I could answer this
question with confidence! Since I have so much ambient light from the
sky and from the water coming through these big windows, we always have
GREAT light! --- YIPPEE!!!
Hair and Makeup: The rule of thumb here is whatever
you see in the mirror is exactly what you're going to get! Men &
Women: come to the shoot with hair and makeup already done, as
if you're going to a barbeque and there's someone there you want to
impress, or to a "casual" commercial call - natural! Bring
makeup and hair stuff and we can add to it as we go along as needed.
Men: wear no makeup. We'll put stuff on you here if you need it.
Retouching: Because of the way I shoot,
most people choose not to retouch. However, it is totally up to you!
You can do in all online thru your webpage, or sit down with some folks
I can recommend and do it one on one. However, the way I shoot is is
very forgiving and hence, more economical should you choose not to retouch!
Deposits: To schedule a shoot time, you'll
need to deposit $200 (plus tax, that's $17.25 making the total deposit
amount $217.25). The check should be made out to JINSEY DAUK PHOTOGRAPHY,
INC. If you have to postpone, you must call me at (212) 243-0652 by
8:00 a.m. 2 business days before your shoot date! (Saturday and Sunday
ain't business days.)
For example, if your shoot is scheduled on Wednesday, call me on Monday
by 8:00 a.m. to cancel or else, ouch, you lose your deposit. Sorry,
no exceptions!
Film sessions are still available upon request. Call for details.
* Reshoots are $200, barring haircuts,
or going in a totally different direction than what was discussed at
the initial shoot.
* Tax is $17.25 on the first installment payment of $200,
therefore please make the first check out to Jinsey Dauk Photography,
Inc. for $217.25.
Total tax paid for the $650 shoot is $56.06. * No Refunds * $25 charge
for bad checks
*Although I am happy to give you recommendations, you are solely responsible
for your choice of makeup artists.
The makeup is to be applied outside of the studio (i.e. @ the makeup
artists studio, your apartment...)
This is a good guide sheet. In other words, if you see
other photographers,
make sure they answer every question I've answered for you here.
By scheduling a headshot session, you
are agreeing to all the terms of this info sheet.
So Please Read Carefully!
P.S.: A little tidbit: When I was in the eighth grade, my neighbor was
in the hospital and I wanted to give her something to make her feel
better. Her 5 year old son was over playing and I grabbed my Mom's camera
and took these wonderful photos of him - full of life, full of spirit,
full of fun! His mom loved 'em and I haven't put the camera down since.
By having my own portrait photography biz throughout junior high and
high school, and by teaching photography in college, it eventually led
me to modeling, and acting. (50 commercials since '84.) The combination
of being smack dab in the middle of the acting biz coupled with what
the kids taught me about shooting people (i.e. the importance of life
and spontaneity in a great portrait...) has all led me to that wonderful
wacky world of HEADSHOT PHOTOGRAPHY. It's hard to believe I've been
doing this since 1985
but you know what they say...
"Time flies when you're having FUN!!!"
